Pros

- Opportunity to be part of a growing company - Expanding skills and opportunities to collaborate hands-on with clients and colleagues in a way that isn't possible at big agencies - Shared vision and ideals - Great client list - Good compensation - Senior management skilled at bringing in new business

Cons

- Staffing strategy was based on hiring recent graduates and forcing them to work overtime (sweatshop economics), which made it challenging to support existing client work that required certain skill-sets and no time for training - Senior leadership was heavy on micro-management and inexperienced in running a profitable digital service business - Lack of clarity/constantly changing demands around roles and responsibility, reporting structure, client rates, job expectations, and priorities - Incompetent staff as a result of staffing strategy, poor company reputation, and too low budgets for hiring - Poor staff morale due to long over-time, unpredictable and moody leadership, lack of client management, and lack of employee value - Cramped and hot/poorly ventilated and uncomfortably small office (basically a room with a bunch of shared tables and chairs for the staff - but a well air-conditioned/heated office to the side for the partners), with a shady bathroom down the hall - Was dismissed for no reason, given only 2 weeks notice, and given no severance pay, after winning new business and working regular overtime - Final pay check and expense check were paid months late

Pros

- If you're new in your field, you may get enough experience here to find another position in a few months. - You get to work on a few recognizable brands which may look good in your portfolio if that's all you care about.

Cons

- Leadership is sinking the company with a vision of a "New Rain" they don't even believe or understand, and won't be able to explain it if you ask them to. - Leadership lies to employees constantly. - The new Chief Talent Officer works remotely, and her first rule was to forbid Work From Home to all employees, except her, because (and I quote her public statement) "nobody loves rain as much as her, so nobody works as hard as her". - They undermine the doers and promote the talkers. - In 2018, they're consistently hiring 1 Vice President of something per month, while total workforce continues to shorten. - Everybody is jumping ship, even the CDO and Founding Partner recently left the company. - The company is selling itself as the goto for Voice, but nobody in the team has expertise in Natural Language Processing, AI or Machine Learning in general. - Salaries are not even close to industry average. - Glass ceiling for anybody not in the NY office.

Pros

Good co-workers, nice perks (soda machine, snacks, summer-short Fridays every other week)

Cons

Things are undoubtedly getting worse. The employees have been leaving or being laid off the past 18 months. Even the company President has left - going to another agency. The Utah owner/Chief Digital Officer is living in reality bubble of pet projects and generally disconnected from clients and employees. He is focused on his vacations, home improvements and corner office in a shiny new building while the AF office wastes away (they are already renting out most of their office in the existing space). I would bet that Utah becomes a small production house for New York if it even survives another year. Not sure why Crossborders bought Rain a few years ago - it has systematically dismantled the Utah operation while the CDO has tuned out completely.
