Pros

Pay and benefits (except health insurance) are above standard mostly due to the fact people are hesitant to work for them. They are lured in on the idea that QBE has changed and reviews are outdated - they are not. They are accurate and current. A generous distribution of money is deposited in your 401k above and beyond the matching amount. My account grew nicely. Work life balance is good generally. Very little after hours work depending on your team though. Some teams are hammered hard after hours when on call. Work from home was allowed until recent management opinions waffled again to on-prem exclusivity. Managers and leads may allow work from home one day a week but even then you're assumed to be less effective than in the office. Office amenities are nice. Sun Prairie is undergoing a remodel and love/hate the new environments. If you want to work in a quiet cubicle, this isn't a place for you.

Cons

To advance you are not qualified unless you are anointed by management. Your skills and past experience mean nothing. Technical leadership happens from the bottom up, guerrilla style, to make sure projects success in spite of inexperience and unskilled technical architects. If you aren't careful your work will be plagiarized and passed up to management without credit.

Pros

Salary, 401k, work from home availability

Cons

Was hired by the old "bait and switch" trick. None of the work or caseload was as they said it would be in the interview. New work was assigned with no training . Lack of communication between depts due to inadequate staffing. Sale of personal lines business in North America has left everyone wondering when the axe will fall.

Pros

Good pay and flexible working. In the process of transforming the business.

Cons

Not for those who want to make a difference or be challenged in a good way. Extremely hierarchical. Decision making falls in the wrong hands. People react due to fear as opposed to working proactively. Set in their ways and management do not listen. Disempowering when people who can add value get shot down by those who shout the loudest or intentional excluded. People spend time on creative ways hide bad results rather focus on ways to fix the problem. A lot of time and effort wasted on appeasing senior management on tick box exercises as opposed to anything meaningful. Poor change management and resulting remediation is a constant embarrassment.
