      Company had a work BBQ in the summer, partial reimbursement for personal protective equipment

      Rude encounters with multiple staff members, poor and dirty and unsafe working environment

      Good stepping stone for co-ops

      Pros

      First hand experience with a wide range of chemicals and related processes. Supervisors tend to sympathize with the plights of the interns. Good for junior co-ops.

      Cons

      Hazardous environment. Not uncommon to deal with cyanides, sulfuric acids, large quantities of hydrochloric acids. Safety procedures mostly consist of careful self-policing. Pay is low

      High levels of responsibility relative to experience level, lots to learn from highly experienced top management. Hands on experience in chemical processes combined with engineering.

      Cons

      Occasionally dysfunctional management structures, atypical business practices. Lower than standard compensation. Limited opportunity for advancement within company.
