Pros

Interesting industry with exposure to power trading and core trading concepts.

Cons

The company emphasizes a highly “scientific” and academic approach, where extensive questioning is prioritized over practical problem-solving and execution. Curiosity is often equated with the volume of questions asked, rather than the value or efficiency of outcomes delivered. This creates a narrow definition of what is considered the “right” way of working, with limited tolerance for alternative approaches. As a result, strong execution and value delivery may be undervalued if they do not align with the dominant methodology. Trainees are expected to remain in this learning phase for an extended period (often a year or more) before being given meaningful trading responsibility. This contrasts with other, larger and more established energy trading firms, where junior traders can be given trading responsibilities within their first month. Additionally, the culture appears relatively detached from PnL and commercial outcomes. Discussions around profitability are limited on the trading floor, which may feel unusual for candidates expecting a performance- and results-driven trading environment. There is also a notably conservative stance toward AI and modern productivity tools, which may signal a reluctance to adapt to evolving industry practices. Finally, transparency around contractual rights, termination conditions, and post-employment obligations could be improved. Candidates are strongly advised to review their contracts carefully and seek full clarity upfront. Compensation is way below the industry average, particularly given the length of the trainee phase and the level of commitment expected.
