Sacrifice + no reward = no thanks

Pros

There are a few pros: - An incredibly energetic and focused CEO, who will do anything to make the company succeed - Many smart, fun and talented people who, inexplicably, remain at the company - Interesting science behind the products

Cons

The word "sacrifice" comes up in every townhall speech, and the CEO means it - employee welfare, salaries, benefits, career growth are absolutely irrelevant unless they somehow affect the growth of the company. Don't believe any positive reviews you read here, new employees are coerced to write them. The facts speak for themselves: More than 100 people have left in the short life of the company. No regular raises or performance reviews. No meaningful promotions for anyone. Insulting benefits ($2000 for training? Please). The early employees who built the core of the company have mostly left. The few who remain are still waiting for a market salary or stock options, while being effectively demoted as new hires are placed above them. Can Prenetics explain why new employees are getting options while many existing ones don't have them? Do flowers on employee anniversaries compensate for this? Another thing you will hear at townhalls is "hard work will be rewarded". Don't believe it, nobody has ever been rewarded. You'll also be told "if you are not happy, just leave". Many people have done just that because they worked extremely hard and got no reward. It's a complex business, and after all the attrition there are now very few people in the company who truly understand it. What remains is an endless cycle of mistakes and fire-fighting with no time to plan for the future. Finger pointing is routine, and smooth talking is rewarded. Confusion is everywhere. New employees are desperate to prove themselves to colleagues who are also trying to prove themselves. Increasing time is wasted in unstructured meetings. There are multiple lists of "values" and "tenets" which are recited then ignored. Mistakes are severely punished, creativity is not encouraged, overtime is explicitly expected, and work-life balance does not exist. Beware of the amateur hiring process which has seen many people hired and then fired during their probation, after the company changed their mind. Several talented people left good careers to join Prenetics, or worse immigrated, only to find themselves out of a job in a few months through no fault of their own.

Pros

Loyal trainees Outdated technique of DNA testing

Cons

Employees are not professional, they always hire cheap and low-cost laboratory technicians with no license, not enough academic background or work experience. The longest duration of an lab technician to stay here is only 2 years. Samples are mostly contaiminated during the process. Customers may not know their testing are not accurate.

Severely Disappointed

Pros

-Industry is exciting and growing very quickly -Found supportive and inspiring colleagues (although many have now left as well)

Cons

- Lack of robust science and true professional input underlying results of the tests which means the genetic test is actually quite useless in providing helpful health information, same goes for the apps which are not created with real thought (studies and science) towards how to actually change health behavior - Like the product, the company has a "pretty" and "compelling" exterior, but once you dig in there are big problems - every startup faces problems especially as they grow but the problem here is a CEO who believes everything you need to know about health and genetics can be googled -- a slap in the face to professionals who spend years and years learning and studying and innovating - An environment where if you are not well liked by the CEO (a select handful) you are made to feel inadequate and stupid which is hard to deal with in a startup environment where a lot is demanded of you; the reason people have left aren't demanding hours or a sink or swim environment which is normal in any startup but because of a distinct lack of appreciation and respect for the work people do put in and the sacrifices they make - Management claims to be creating a better culture through lunches and activities but at the end of the day these are a band aide over the true culture problems within the company which start at the top - Some employees were promised equity as part of a contract but never actually received it
