Pros

Commission and that’s all. But because the commission is good, the directors think they can get away with treating terribly. There are places out there with great commission structure where you won’t dread coming to work every day.

Cons

Just before I start, note that the next reviews that follow this one will all miraculously be “positive” (and most likely from current employees) because the company pretty much force current staff to drown out negative reviews. That will give you a very clear idea of this business. Management style is “fear-based” management. They make it quite clear they’ll get rid of you if you don’t do exactly what they say. It is old-style recruitment, with absolutely no trust in their employees. Heavily KPId with two set BD days each week. No matter how much experience you have, or how much you bill you will made to do BD days and you will be made to hit your KPIs. You could be running at 20 live jobs and no time to fill them and still be doing BD all day every Tuesday and Thursday. London office is cliquey with poor staff retention. If your face doesn’t fit and you’re not a ‘yes man’ then say goodbye before you start. Don’t try and have an opinion. Everything you know about recruitment before you start you can leave at the door and just start saying ‘yes’ to the backwards way of recruitment as led by the directors. The best way to actually make money here is to nod and agree and then do the absolute opposite to what the directors tell you to do (they really don’t have a clue about recruitment). Manchester office is an absolute shambles where nobody stays because of the associate director who looks after the office. That office has had higher turnover than a McDonalds. Massive office with about 3 consultants left in the business (seriously). The micromanagement here is through the roof. To all current employees: The grass IS greener on the other side. I’ve not met one former employee who isn’t much happier since leaving. Good commission does not warrant the way Portfolio treat people. To all prospective employees: Do yourself a favour and keep looking. It really isn’t worth it.

The Portfolio Group are extremely proud to be an award-winning organisation and one of the fastest growing specialist recruitment companies within the UK. Central to this success and growth is the dedication, commitment, and talent of our employees, we are proud that just under 60% of our team have been employed within the organisation for over 5 years. With further employees exceeding over 10 years of service, highlighting marginal staff turnover in comparison to industry standards. We are confident that our management style, working practices and career development opportunities provides a highly positive and rewarding working environment. However, we do acknowledge that a high performance, fast paced and highly collaborative culture may not suit every employee, however, our Directors take on board all employee feedback whether it be positive or to the contrary.

Pros

I liked certain members of my team (other recruitment consultants)

Cons

There are so many. This company needs a complete restructure ESPECIALLY the directors and senior members of the company. They need to leave for this company to even be an average place to work. - From the day you join this company they expect so much of you. Your working day is 8am-7pm minimum. If you leave or turn up before or after these times you are made to feel like you are completely failing in your job. - There are no mobile phones allowed what so ever, not even on your desk. Now I understand you are here to work, but being made to feel like you are a child at school is not normal working behaviour. - Forget having a lunch break at this company. You are allowed to go and buy your lunch but you must bring it straight back to the office and eat at your desk. 15 mins lunch to eat your food is all you will get. - This company is heavily KPI'ed. If you are not reaching the high amount of calls they expect you to make you will lose your job. - The SLT are the worst people I have ever met in my life. I still have nightmares about a certain individual who now goes by CGO (Cheif Growth Officer) or whatever that is. How she got this job everyone knows. - Overall I would not recommend this company to anyone, and anybody working here needs to join a company that actually values you as a real life person. Best thing I did was leave and I have been happier ever since. This is not a normal way for staff to be treated and the grass is definitely greener.

Thank you for your feedback regarding The Portfolio Group. We’re disappointed to hear about your experience, particularly concerning our C-suite and Directors. While we acknowledge your concerns, we want to clarify that several points you've raised do not align with our established policies. Our standard finishing time is 5:30 PM, with a 4 PM finish on Fridays, and we encourage our team to take a full one-hour lunch break away from their desks in designated breakout areas. Sales is inherently competitive, and some may choose to put in extra hours to excel, but this is never an expectation. We understand that the demands of KPIs can be challenging, yet they are based on years of industry experience and are put in place in order for our consultants be successful, whilst they have also been reviewed in recent years in-line with market trends. Our commitment to employee growth is evident through our clearly defined career pathways. For instance, our Chief Growth Officer, began her journey with us as a Consultant and quickly became one of our top billers. She successfully transitioned into management, overseeing key initiatives that increased our market presence and revenue. Notably, she led the development of North West office and our first international office in Toronto, which has significantly expanded our client base. As an award-winning organisation, we take pride in our low turnover rates and long employee tenures, which reflect our dedication to fostering a stable and motivated workforce. Please know that our C-suite values all feedback as we strive for continuous improvement. We wish you all the best in finding a workplace that better meets your needs.

Pros

Location- London Office is very close to Liverpool Street Station

Cons

The culture at this place is by far the worst I've encountered. The directors are bullies who publicly humiliate and shout at employees. Despite my extensive experience in recruitment, I was constantly patronised and micromanaged. There's a pervasive sense of job insecurity if you don't conform. Staff retention is abysmal. My advice: keep looking for a better workplace where you'll be happier. Also, I was pressured to leave a positive review during my first month. If you check, you'll notice most positive reviews are likely from current employees trying to drown out negative feedback from former colleagues.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your time with Portfolio. We are of course sorry to hear of your concerns, especially regarding Senior Management, however we do not believe it is a true reflection of our business and culture. The point you made about staff retention is incorrect. We're proud of our low staff turnover and average staff tenure of 4 years’ service. In addition, many of our workforce have been employed between 5 and 23 years. We are confident that our management style, working practices, and career pathway creates a positive, rewarding and people centric work environment. However, we recognize that our high-performance, fast-paced culture focused on delivering the highest levels of service to our clients may not be the right fit for everyone. Rest assured, our C-Suite is committed to continually improving and take all feedback seriously. We appreciate your comments and wish the best of luck in the future.
