Great benefits, formerly a small tight start up. Ultimately a noble concept. Office is in the city proper. Free snacks, etc. Work from home. Decent pay for some.
Cons
All of the Pros mentioned above are of course being eroded. Starting pay is less and less, and morale is certainly not going up. It was a great company to work for. Was.
Purchased by Spectrum Equity in late 2020 so they supposedly have resources for expansion, etc. Pretty good work culture, seem to care about employees.
New building, very up-to-date, lots of snacks and drinks, etc.
Cons
Purchased by Spectrum Equity who appear to be changing everything. Added LOTS of positions, were not very open about how the company was going to be structured, not sure where all the new people fit into the overall structure of the company. Appeared to care about employee suggestions for improvement (would occasionally ask) but never did anything about it. New CEO is aloof - complete 180 from previous one. New management gave what amounted to stock options that would vest once company increased 300% (as long as we were still with the company. ) This did not seem like a very realistic goal - so of dubious value.
Equity companies are terrible. I can't imagine the pressure the new management must be under to increase revenue, so I imagine that pressure will continue to flow downhill.
The engineers, QA, PM, EM, and design individuals are all great. Without an exception, every one of the ICs I worked with was amazing. They all were capable, personable, and doing the best they could. I loved working with them. The people absolutely made the day to day great.
Cons
Leadership. Unfortunately leadership would blindside folks with changes, pivots, demands, and at times seemingly random firings. For as much as the ICs were amazing, the product and engineering leadership lacked transparency and feigned being collaborative when they would instead decide for teams what they had to do, eliminating any of the autonomy that was supposed to exist.
