Trainee Engineer - Poor training, no support

Pros

Hard to think of any

Cons

Training initially is pretty poor. They run through all new things with you once before moving onto something else. You are expected to remember everything from these one off training session as your manager will soon try and catch you out. Out of training school you go into 3 weeks training with regional engineer, here you will just pick up jobs and try and learn what you can, it all depends on the jobs you get. After these 3 weeks you are on your own, little to no support other than a phone number where you contact a random engineer who is sitting behind a laptop trying to help you decide what to do while they are miles away. Managers are extremely stat driven, perform and improve or you will be questioned. I lasted a few months before deciding it really wasn't for me. Don't apply if you actually want to learn a new trade properly and if you want to do a job right. Too stat driven and not enough technical training. Oh, new engineers get sent everywhere due to the new contracts. Be prepared to travel at least an hour to first job and at least an hour back home.
