Be Warned

Pros

-There is enough work to stay so busy the time can pass faster. -If you like multi-tasking, you will do plenty of it since no one else is available.

Cons

-Unlivable and unsustainable wage. Only two quarters increase for being a "head" cashier. -Schedule is only posted a day or two in advance of when your hours start. -Almost no staff, read again, almost no staff at least at the front end so be fully prepared for endless long lines of frustrated customers and almost no time for anything except ringing up customers. -No cell phones allowed when not serving customers. Understandable to not be on your phone when serving someone, however this no cell phones at all policy is another example of extreme corporate crackdown. -Rotating schedule, hours can widely vary from only one 5 hour shift to pushing over 30 hours a week with no benefits. -Management did not provide access to employee accounts including pay stubs, had to figure it out myself and contacted corporate in an effort intensive endeavor after no information was given about how to access employee records.

Pros

There is a sense of commodore and family like values amongst the store leadership teams in the districts, you all know know each other and work closely helping each other and talking.

Cons

Pay is absolutely terrible for the work load. You have to work 50hr work weeks, 60 during the holidays and you only get paid for 40. Internal promotes get screwed while externals reap the benefit of decent pay. The metrics to hit your bonuses are physically Impossible to reach, with the exception on the quarter 1 and 2 bonuses that are combined, those are sales based so as long as your meeting plan you’ll max out, but other wise the metrics are impossible. You get no hours to staff your staff your store. I ran a 53,000sqft store and did over 5 million annually, I got 360 hours to staff my store, keep in mind that salary hours come out of the store total so there’s 80hrs a week out of your budget for yourself and your comanager right off the bat. There’s is no support from district and regional leadership, the only thing they do is create more work for you by adding task after task into ops center and then requiring you to upload pictures of it completed to prove it was done instead of trusting you as a leader, not to mention you have to take and upload pictures with a digital camera from 2007 and a usb drive. As a store manager you are expected to simultaneously ring register, work freight, handle all operational tasks and duties, assist customers, unload a truck, and clean the bathrooms. You have at most yourself and 2-3 associates In your building at a time. They will jam freight down your throat with no remorse. Truck after truck, with no one to work it then wonder why your backed up. It was the most relentless, thankless, stressful and chaotic experience of my life.

Pros

I enjoyed the work at Ollie's. Sometimes it was very demanding but very rewarding. To see your stock put up and put up correctly was all was rewarding.

Cons

Not enough time, work register while putting up stock especially during the holidays was very stressful and demanding. Do not pay enough.

Great Growing Company to Work for

Business outlook

Pros

Everyone in the company is welcoming and nice to work with. Most people WFH on Fridays and the company offers some flexibility with WFH if needed. Leadership is easy to work with, approachable, and open to discussions. Variety of projects to work on. Great company culture - fun events, spirit week, holiday parties, potlucks, etc. Benefits are good and affordable - Health, Vision, and Dental start after day 2 of employment, 401K match

Cons

Lack of technical documentation which makes it difficult to find information. This often requires tracking down people for answers and can slow down progress plus create inefficiencies.

Pros

* Typically relaxed environment overall * Easy to speak to management

Cons

* Lacking decent hour distribution * Lots of pressure on sign-ups for the membership; so much so that your hours rely on it * If you cannot make numbers, you receive less hours/time on register which in turn means you further cannot gain sign-ups * When you do receive hours, you start off (and likely remain for some time) a part-time employee but working full-time hours. So you receive no benefits.
