Pros

I worked with some great people, most of whom have also left. Novant does a great job of hiding/spinning the information about them to maintain a good reputation in spite of reality. Recruiters are also trained to do a lot of bait and switch in order to bring in talent. So there are pockets of competence and kindness in various parts of the organization. But if you work in a corporate department, you realize that is not part of the overarching plan. There are a lot of opportunities to learn (often to learn what not to do) if you have the stomach for it. If you do not have a personal life outside work, and have a high tolerance for moral ambiguity, this can be a great place to make money. Benefits are good.

Cons

The nepotism and incompetence is staggering. There are so many VP's and "C" suite executives that get shuffled around from job to made up job, no one can keep track. But we would freeze hiring and/or cut jobs on the front line - because of this I would never be a patient there. Speaking up is not allowed, and departments are purposely set up in silos so that no one knows too much. Employees are treated poorly and then bullied into giving high marks on employee surveys. If you value your personal and professional ethics, this is a very uncomfortable place to work.

Novant billing nightmare

Pros

None. It was a job.

Cons

Was told to purposefully and wrongfully bill patients. Double and triple billing was the norm. We were told to make sure that there were errors in bills sent to patients. Many times we were instructed to make sure that bill,s were sent prior to insurance payment so Novant would get a much higher amount paid by the patient. This was because we were told that 20% or so of patients just pay their statements and don't check them. This resulted in millions of extra profits for Novant. This is illegal and should be criminal. I left because I wanted no part in this.

Pros

Most employees are good to work with. Many have been there for years, even before Novant bought it. They take pride in where they work. Easy commute from anywhere.

Cons

Novant does not care about their employees. When employees leave they are not replaced. Emails are sent weekly hounding about NO overtime. Novant is a company who only cares about their money. They want you to deliver great care but don't give a hoot about the employees and what they have to work with. Now they are saying we are lucky to have a job as other hospitals are closing down. Is this a mind game they are playing or are they thinking of closing? Don't waste your time with this one.
