You must be ready to commit to working long hours and on holidays. This was not a problem for me, but I did have an issue with the last minute cancellations. I would consistently recieve a phone call an hour before I was scheduled to come in telling me not to come in to work my 8-9 hour shift. This was extremely inconvenient.
Furthermore, we were all expected to meet a certain "quota" when it came to walking dogs. While I understand the purpose of this, quantifying the dogs did make work less enjoyable and I felt like I was always pushing the dogs to eliminate and go inside within the 5 minutes that they were given for walks. Furthermore, dogs are forced to do the activities that their owners paid for, and we would have to push these dogs to do swims and exercise even if they did not want to.
As with working at any animal place, you also always need to be cautious, no matter how "safe" the other reveiwers say that a place may be. I have been bitten while working with a dog at Morris Animal Inn, and although this is not something that is within MAI's control, it is something that you must be prepared to deal with if you are planning on working with animals.
