I have been working at Mintel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A lot of smart wonderful devoted people working hard together – a few great managers – most of senior leadership mean well. Benefits are good (medical, dental, vision, 401k with match – parental leave, good amount of PTO) – some teams get to work from home. Nice gym in the Chicago building. Some work-life flexibility on some teams, people are nice and positive but….

    Cons

expectations and standards are all over the place. The people who last are those who just suck it up and go along for the ride. Leadership has an obvious preference for extroverted sales-type personalities, but the business depends on the steady insightful writing, strategy, and content creation that is nearly impossible to accomplish in the over-crowded, loud office environment. The open office/hot desking is unworkable...

    Advice to Management

Slow down and translate your big ideas into some sort of action plan that your top performers can get on board with. Make better use of the talent you have while you still have them.

I have been working at Mintel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've been working for Mintel for about a year and have really enjoyed my time thus far. Coming from a previous job were work-life balance did not exist, I value that Mintel takes this seriously. Our hours are consistently 8:30am – 5pm. As well, I value Mintel’s entrepreneurial aspect of the business. Managers will listen to you. Mintel doesn’t necessarily have a black and white career trajectory and it allows you to have...

I worked at Mintel full-time (Less than a year)

      Pros

      - nice office and free breakfast in Central London location - friendly co-workers

      Cons

      - worked in the MMS team, which was a complete farce - make up data and pretend with a pseudo methodology that they don't - also try to steal data through trade interviews by pretending to have data themselves

      Advice to Management

      - improve management and methodology

I have been working at Mintel full-time

      Pros

      - Central London location - Working from home facilities (which have unfortunately been curtailed recently to one day a week, instead of two days) - Flexible working hours - Quarterly company party - Most Valued People awards - Free coffee and tea, free breakfast if you start early, free fruit if you're quick on your feet - Friendly, really nice coworkers - You make friends easily here. - Job referral bonus system

      Cons

      - Managers mean well, but have lost touch or forgotten the challenges of the roles they recently left, and seem either unwilling or unable to stand up for their teams and defend their interests. The 'yes-man' type managers won't report the issues properly to their superiors, if they do it at all, so upper management is not aware of the growing difficulties in the department. - Obsolete software coupled with understaffed,...

      Advice to Management

      - Appoint a spokesperson for GNPD who can report the issues they face. Make it clear that people can talk openly about their concerns and frustrations without any fear, and be receptive to their feedback. - Actually commit to implement changes that improve the day to day workflow, and then really implement them. - Improve top-down communication, and explain why decisions are made and how they benefit employees. ...
