Pros

Voice-driven functionality inside applications is in high demand, and this company seems well-positioned to grow a huge business around this opportunity. The energy of the team and sense of ownership that people have (there are no unimportant projects) make for a great atmosphere to be a part of every day at the office. In addition, even though the team is still small, it's diverse. At some startups, it feels like the existing employees are hiring people who have a social/cultural/demographic background very similar to them; here, it feels like there's a wide breadth of perspectives and each person's interests and personality shape the overall culture of the company.

Cons

The team needs to grow fast to keep up with the opportunity. In the mean time, there are some cool projects that might get delayed due to bandwidth.

Pros

The best thing about Expect Labs is its transparency. The CEO and everyone else constantly communicate about what's happening with the company: funding status, PR and biz dev efforts, critical customers and revenue. Another great thing is breadth of knowledge and skills an employee gains. Every engineer can be a project lead and work on various components and features of the product. You may come in as a mobile developer and end up working on web development, backend, design, project management etc. Very simple and flat organizational structure.

Cons

We're growing and need more space! Currently we're looking for a new office space in SF financial district or downtown, close to our current office.

Pros

Everyone has a say in the company and there is total transparency in what is going on - from marketing to PR, from sales to recruiting to engineer. You definitely feel like you're an owner of the company and it's very rewarding to see your work have high impact.

Cons

The office space is a little cramped for our growing company, but we will be moving as of February, 2015 to a bigger space. Sometimes it can be stressful because of the high impact you have.
