Pros

- Flexible hours - A handful of really passionate people - A few good senior leaders - Supplier events - thanks for the free goodies and food :) - Small yearly pay rise - The retailers/store owners are the real MVPs

Cons

Metcash is the place you work at if you just want to do your job and go home. Why would you do anymore when there's no employee benefits?. The culture is non existent, there's no reward and recognition. Here's what you can expect when working at Metcash: - No product discounts despite being a wholesaler - Hardly any genuine career progression - Zero regard for employee training and development - unless your a leader then you get a bit more perks like leadership training. They refer you to a training platform that is out of date and has no industry relevant information. If you need Excel or how to be confident training they got you. - The end of year party is fun if you're a supplier and get to go into the city with flashy views, good food and drinks. The regular employees get an office rooftop party with DIY burgers and a side of heatstroke - Remuneration is at or below benchmark and forget bonuses they're few and far between, saved for the people exceeding in their role (which they limit this ranking to avoid distributing bonuses) - 5th week leave - YAY!... this is not a genuine perk. You can only apply for it at the end of the financial year but you need to have less than 2 weeks of current and future leave balance to access it. - The office is as stale as they come, welcome to a sea of grey and florescent lights where your collogues love to have meetings at their desks screaming the building down. - No business funded events but as a part of the terms the suppliers host and run events - Yearly engagement surveys that constantly underperform yet the leadership team interrogate their team members to come up with solutions. There's never been any change. - The technology is as ancient as they come- Horizon update number ?? - Hierarchical benefits structure/system, as stated above most of the events and perks are given to the 'senior leaders' such as the yearly Metcash organised Expo where they schmooze retailers and network with suppliers. The senior leaders get to attend every year - fine no problem with that but then, there 'was' a rule that if you had a stand meaning if your business unit had a business update your team would go. This year they shaved the numbers to 'save' however there were exceptions to the rule for new senior leaders. - Office or collaboration days are supposed to be 3 days however, there are some teams that don't come in for 3 days so the one's that do go in to 'collaborate' are glued to their desks enjoying the sight of their two crooked monitors which no matter what you do THEY DO NOT LINE UP!

A Disheartening Experience at Metcash

Pros

Nice freebies from suppliers and a new ceo coming.

Cons

Culture and Leadership: At ALM, the workplace culture is tainted by toxicity, characterised by a glaring lack of transparency and communication from the leadership team. Decision-making appears arbitrary, and there is a noticeable absence of support for employees. The leadership exhibits detachment and disinterest in addressing the valid concerns raised by the workforce. Office Environment: ALM's physical work environment is outdated, falling below industry standards for office facilities. There is an evident lack of investment in creating a comfortable and productive workspace. The absence of a seating plan contributes to a hierarchical structure where senior staff often claim seats over juniors who arrive earlier, fostering an unfair dynamic within the office. Workplace Behavior: Unprofessional behavior permeates the workplace environment at ALM, including gossip, inappropriate language, and a general lack of courtesy. This not only fosters a hostile atmosphere but also leads to decreased productivity and collaboration among team members. Failure to Uphold Professional Standards: In spite of the company's code of conduct, ALM demonstrates a consistent failure to uphold professional standards. Senior staff frequently make inappropriate remarks in a purportedly "joking way," undermining the commitment to a professional and respectful work environment outlined in the company's guidelines.
