Pros

The number one thing I tell people who ask what makes Magic Spoon special is that empathy runs through the culture. Everyone is conscientious about how their work and how they behave impacts the people around them. It's a quality that makes the work more enjoyable and the problems easier to solve. One the practical side: Magic Spoon has pretty good benefits and competitive pay. More importantly, they are quick and thoughtful about comp adjustments based on your performance. There is no complicated negotiation dance at review time. If you're contributing meaningfully and participating thoughtfully, you'll be compensated for your efforts. Finally, Magic Spoon is very thoughtful and intentional with headcount growth while the business is growing. Most startups, you're forced to choose between smaller scale with stability or greater scale with unsustainable, "rocketship" team growth. Magic Spoon has scale and growth, without the wild approach to hiring that can lead to long-term chaos.

Cons

-Requirement to be in NYC as part of 2/3-day hybrid model isn't for everyone -If you come from a super aggressive culture where problems are solved via headbutting, it will be an adjustment. For most people, it's a good adjustment -- but some people enjoy a higher level of conflict -It's a start-up, which means you will have less daily guidance and can have autonomy early. If you're not ready or don't want that, it's scary.

Fine, not Great

Pros

the people that work at Magic Spoon are fun, but once you zoom out you can see that there is a hiring bias for lots of "PLU's" aka People Like Us. Office is great, location is nice, business is growing (or appears to be)

Cons

CEO / CSuite are involved in the minutiae of every decision. Worker bees are valued less for their critical thinking and problem solving, and more for their ability to take marching orders. Positions are eliminated whimsically, and WFH rules are bent in favor of the favorites.

Pros

Amazing culture! Loved working with / collaborating with everyone on the team

Cons

felt as though there wasn't a lot of career growth in my role but I do believe that is very specific to the team I was on at that point in time
