Pros

Most of the first year analysts and senior analysts were incredibly intelligent/motivated and a pleasure to get to know.

Cons

-Work/life balance for much of the firm was awful; I say "investment bank" because the hours were dreadful (frequent weekend work, daily 16hr days), the tasks were penal, the mentorship was a myth, and the upper-level management thought of themselves as a biotech "JP Morgan" but the salaries for starting Analysts and Associates were a few standard deviations off of a true IB salary -The upper management (especially CEO Geoff and CPO Amy) promoted a culture of silencing dissent and although the word "transparent" was tossed around on Company calls, the pipeline, the success (or lack thereof) of client engagements, and reason for abrupt staff departure are never discussed with business integrity -Attitude of "better than thou" and the CPO refusing to hire at the rate of attrition led to extreme staff shortage and required much of junior staff to assume senior roles without adequate support and furthered burnout cycle -Corporate development lacked clarity and favoritism and ESPECIALLY nepotism dominated promotion cycles

Pros

Client engagements can provide excellent experience to potentially leverage elsewhere.

Cons

CEO is fundamentally broken individual, lacking any moral compass, suffering from extreme narcissism, ego and greed. COO is beyond incompetent; merely a pawn to execute CEO's dirty business with a harsh and often unprofessional touch. There is no corporate governance whatsoever; the firm is pure dictatorship (run by someone with atrocious business acumen) with a side of nepotism (family member). Market is catching up with LW as firm with no real talent left at the table and it will be increasingly more difficult for them to win quality engagements. Any employment opportunity at this firm should be considered as a last resort stepping stone to parlay into something better.

Pros

The analysts are great to work with. All very intelligent, hardworking, and understanding people.

Cons

The issue lies with leadership and C-Suite executives that continue to put their best interests above the interests of the business and their employees. Upper management are all related to the CEO. Therefore due to nepotism, core functions of the business are being run by under qualified people or people who do not care enough to do their job well because they will not be fired by the CEO. As a result, the managers are stretched incredibly thin with little to no resources and junior members are expected to do the job of 2-3 people without proper guidance. Leadership is refuses to invest in long term hires or resources to alleviate this issue and allow the business to run smoothly. Additionally, Amy, the CPO/COO is the most under qualified person at the firm. She absolutely has no empathy or compassion as the head of HR and has no business aptitude to run the day to day operations as COO at an investment bank. The biggest red flag is that your compensation and career progression is largely dictated by whether or not Geoff and Amy like you. There are no clear or consistent benchmarks for a promotion or raise. And the career path at this firm is extremely limited unless you are on the Deal Team.
