Pros

Location, fulfillment teaching students, support from other clinicians

Cons

Low pay, despite requiring a degree. There is little to no diversity among staff, and no people of color in management or leadership positions. In fact, there were only about 2–3 people of color out of roughly 25–30 staff members. There was no adequate support or training for working with students who have behavioral or mental health needs, and staff are discouraged from seeking support when dealing with these challenges. Students face little to no disciplinary consequences and are often allowed to behave however they want. The training provided is redundant, and the mentoring offered is minimal and ineffective. Many of the managers are rude but attempt to frame it as diligence or professionalism. Managers are often dishonest. They do not value loyalty and would rather have a higher turnover than invest in current employees. Consultants are generally supportive when they are available, but they carry an extremely heavy workload. The job requires a significant amount of work within an 8-hour shift, leaving little to no downtime. Ten-minute breaks are often spent cleaning up or preparing for the next class, and the one-hour break is rarely a full hour. Burnout is inevitable in this environment.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Lindamood-Bell. We’re glad to hear that you found the work with students fulfilling and felt supported by your fellow clinicians. We appreciate your candid feedback regarding compensation, training, management, and workplace culture. We expect clinicians to receive the guidance and support needed to work effectively with all students, including managing behavior and engagement, and your comments suggest there may have been inconsistencies in how this was implemented. Additionally, it is our policy to comply with all regulations concerning employee breaks, with processes in place to report and address any missed breaks. We are concerned by your comments regarding diversity. Lindamood-Bell is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace. Our policies and practices support fair treatment in recruitment, hiring, development, and advancement, and we take feedback like yours seriously as we continue working to strengthen an inclusive environment. We will consider your feedback as we continue to improve communication and the overall staff experience. We encourage you to share any specific concerns with our Human Resources Department at support.hr@lindamoodbell.com or (805) 546-5693 so we can better understand and address your experience.

Pros

My coworkers and the consultants I work with are incredible people. We all have each others back when it comes to the stresses of work and watching the students grow has been a consistent highlight of my job. Teaching 1-to-1 means you really get to know them and help kids grow in ways they never thought were possible.

Cons

The burn out is very real. During COVID, the company transitioned to online platforms and have since reversed their desire to expand their online platform almost completely seemingly on a whim (digital note taking back to paper, making teaching from home less and less of an option, etc.). Company policy is so concerned with appearances to nitpick instructor outfits yet they are hesitant to address issues such as the furniture/materials actively falling apart. The center ought to be bigger given how many students, instructors, consultants, admin, and parents are crammed together in the space. The admin team has some pretty awesome people but they're caught between a maelstrom of meetings, tasks, and being the first line of defense from whatever is falling down the corporate ladder -- in the end, they still have to enforce those policies. Over the course of three years, there was one raise.
