Positive Experience

Pros

I had a great experience interning part-time for Lifebound! I did mostly "project work" and had the freedom to contribute some of my own thoughts to the work. I learned a lot about the inner-workings of a small business and was given countless opportunities to practice effective communication. In addition, the other fun interns in the office helped to create an enjoyable community.

Cons

Sometimes the office can feel a bit hectic.

Approach with Caution

Pros

Life coaches and academic coaches (who spend little time at the office) will likely find the company to be a good fit. If you are a college student or recent graduate needing to fill up your resume, an internship here will help you do that.

Cons

There is a difference between fast-paced environments and sloppy ones; this company is the latter. Suggestions for improvements are met with a "don't talk back" or "don't waste my time" attitude from the CEO. I was asked to be dishonest twice during my time there. The first time was a minor issue, the second time was a more serious issue that resulted in my departure.

Not s place to stay

Pros

Good internship experience, Nice location, good colleagues

Cons

As the other reviews have stated, this is a good place to get a little experience, but not a place for long term growth. The owner takes advantage of unpaid interns, relying on their labor almost exclusively. There's little to no real publishing experience here--it's mainly vanity publishing. That said, you can learn some basics and take ownership over the ghostwriting and editorial tasks given, but it's not the equivalent of even an indie publisher. If that's your goal, look for a small publisher in the area or find a local literary agency!
