Pros

100% Remote. People are friendly. Children are welcome to be in the background during internal meetings.

Cons

They take their culture very seriously there. This means that there are many personality tests as well as recorded videos and then multiple interviews even for the most entry-level positions. I think I spent 5-10 hours doing everything they require before I even got an offer. It was honestly very tiring and should have been a massive red flag. Despite these tests I was absolutely not a good fit for their culture. Management does not encourage or foster work-life balance at all. Employees at every level are told to be available for any and all questions during “business hours”. Some managers work well over 40 hours a week and often take meetings at children's events, in cars, etc. At the same time, they do not offer full time hours for entry level positions, or they didn't when I was there. I averaged about seven hours a week, I think and despite only having one or two hours per day of actual duties, you are still expected to answer questions from management and clients throughout the day. Essentially meaning that you're "on call" without being paid for it. This made weekdays exhausting and frankly stressful despite only having a few hours of actual billable work. They say that because the work is 100% remote, employees need to be available during the day for questions, which would be fine if you are paid to be available all day, but you are not. Training and job expectations are inconsistent. They require QBO Certification, but that training is 100% through Intuit and is really just a certificate that says you can use the software. Some managers treat specialists as little more than data entry, others expect knowledge nearly on par with a CPA. There is very little standardization of practices, which means employees need to learn what each manager prefers versus learning a set of company policies. This makes the fact that you can have several different managers at a time very difficult and stressful. Feedback is generally fairly vague and there is very little honesty around more difficult conversations where there may be a gap in knowledge or experience. Some managers point out errors, some fix errors themselves. Someone can think they're doing a good job, receive feedback that they're doing a good job, but find out that they were making errors they never knew about. If you are looking to make more than a couple hundred dollars a week, this is not a good fit. If you are looking for a company where you can just do a couple of hours of work a day and then disengage, this is not a good fit. If you are someone who learns best through critique and feedback, this is not a good fit.

Pros

They are a fast growing e-commerce business ran by a female CEO and husband, the CFO. They have a good product that they sell which is accounting to small to medium sized businesses. They offer moms and women part-time jobs with flexibility throughout the day. They offer the few full time people full benefits. PTO paid at 25-28 hours. Fully remote.

Cons

I should have listened to my gut when they wanted me to undergo a three hour long test and several interviews. There were several red flags. One was asking what my schedule would be and what my responsibilities would be. No paid holidays. Extreme big brother using Harvest time app that tracks your "productivity" and every move. There is little trust at this company. When you are training you are being rated for your performance. There wasn't a lot of help during training and I lacked guidance. If you aren't smiling and responding during meetings, you will be judged as being non-engaged so not good for introverts or anyone with anxiety disorder. They only want you to work part-time with full-time availability throughout the day for calls and emails. You have to work 5 days a week and minimum of 3 hours a day. None of this was discussed before working. I didn't even know what my actual job duties were which changed significantly during my training process. After being left on week 3 while still training, when my manager went out of town, they accused me of not working proficiently. I did everything asked of me. I felt forced to quit or undergo humiliating performance reviews. I was supposed to be in sales but required to delve deeply into accounting analytics, prepare proposals, handle information calls and write bogs in my spare time. This job caters to the stay at home mom with kids that needs to stop and start her time clock several times throughout the day. If you worked in an office you wouldn't be starting and stopping a clock every time you got up to get a drink, talk to a co-worker either. There are also A LOT of meetings. I lasted three weeks before I was forced out. No benefits for part-time or paid holidays for anyone. Unprofessional with kids running in and out of meetings constantly or background family noise.

We try very hard to have a successful employee experience at LedgerGurus. Despite our best efforts the reality is that remote, part-time work is not for everyone. We care a lot about our culture and therefore have a hiring process put in place to make sure everyone has the skill set we need for our positions. We do measure performance from day one and when someone isn’t a fit, we try to correct things quickly. We want people to be successful and happy in their position and working somewhere they don’t enjoy does not help the employer or the employee. We do offer a lot of flexibility in our daily schedules but with a customer-facing role, consistent availability during business hours is critical. By law, we are required to track part-time employees’ work so they can be paid their hourly rate. We do have many working parents and respect that children or pets may be around during internal meetings because of our remote nature. We also offer PTO for part-time employees and our full-time employees do enjoy paid holidays as well as a generous PTO package. Other benefits for part-time employees include a 401K with match, FSA, DCFSA, profit sharing and more. We always feel bad when an employee isn’t successful here and are constantly striving to make the employee experience better for all current and future employees.

Pros

Remote work is great, There are a few great coworkers who are supportive and knowledgeable.

Cons

Upper management dreams up new policies and programs that do not work. They shift people/departments around for their new vision and when they ultimately fail it is blamed on the employees or the clients as the problem. They ask for feed back from employees on things but don't listen to it.
