Pros

It's a good opportunity to see first hand why throwing money at a problem won't solve it.

Cons

- Micromanagement - Decisions on technology are made by management - Priorities and projects based on whatever upper management want, engineers have no say. - Nobody has any idea where the company is going. Rumours keep floating around so it's not a nice environment anymore. - Old culture has gone completely

Pros

- Great tech stack for a 3 year old company and still evolving - Lots of opportunity to try different tech and teams. - The most flexible work environment I have had in the last 15 years. - Extremely smart people as the hiring bar in Dublin was very high initially to ensure we had strong engineers to lead different project. The company is hiring more Mid/lower levels now also but the bar remains high. - Free food & drinks - Free yoga classes and membership in any Gym you want - Free happy hours in bars around Dublin every month - Free full access to everything in Udemy, Pluralsight and Safari - 3000+ euro a year for any external courses, conferences and training you desire - Unlimited vacation - people take lots of time off - 8% pension and company matches it - Excellent health and dental plans for staff - Best salary, bonus and stock options I could find when interviewing with many other companies. - The location on Dawson St can't be beat - Most of the management in Dublin are excellent because they understand how to lead self directed teams and empower good people. Very little overhead in Dublin. - Good discounts on all the brands in the walmart family

Cons

- It can be hard to work across Dublin, New York and the West Coast on a daily basis - I only do 1 week on-call every 2 months but i'd prefer not to do on-call - You will have to travel once a quarter which might be a con for some - The company is 3 years old so it is not perfect, its going through a lot of change to mature and it is now part of Walmart which brings the same challenges any acquired company would go through. - Better agile and test practices are only coming in now after 3 years - Engineers are paid so well, often 50% over their last job that nobody is in a hurry to leave. If a weak person slips through the hiring process the company is stuck with them. - No work phone is provided for oncall
