Pros

The people are incredible and you'll meet people who will become friends. The people are the only reason this review isn't just one star.

Cons

Editors are paid significantly less than the national average and not nearly enough to be able to live. This is all while the CEO's salary has increased over 80% annually and he forgoes giving employees raises amid COVID-19 rather than taking a pay cut himself despite making 500% more than the average employee. Also, I can could on one hand the number of BIPOC employees at this company. That's unacceptable. Do better.

Growth Obsessed, People Neglected

Recommend

Business outlook

Pros

Talented, mission-driven colleagues who genuinely want to make a difference Strong brand and bold ambitions Opportunity to take on responsibility, if you’re willing to go above and beyond with little support and no recompense or recognition

Cons

Leadership is fixated on growth and cost optimisation, often at the direct expense of employee wellbeing and long-term sustainability Chronic underinvestment in people – no structured development, outdated salary bands, and minimal progression support Internal promotion focus is just deckchair shuffling – designed to save money rather than meaningfully invest in leadership or skills Long-serving, high-performing staff are being quietly underpaid while equivalent external roles are advertised at much higher rates Company talks a big game about "opportunities" but avoids facing into the harder, structural issues – pay parity, workload balance, and genuine career progression Budget priorities make it clear: always money for M&A, rebrands, and new tools – but not for people Culture of "do more with less" is the norm – with increasing attrition and declining morale

Post-merger mess

Pros

The greatest strength has always been remote work flexibility but apparently that's being phased out (w/o any rationale from top management besides buzzwords about collaboration & team building)

Cons

TT's family feel is gone & new top management comes across as oblivious. Most of editorial lives on below-market pay & now they're being told to shoulder the costs of coming into the office 3x a week. Leadership talks as if they understand, but the examples they use from their own life reveal how elitist they are--clearly, they don't worry about affording child- or elder-care or paying for transportation. One senior leader even used the line "you did it before Covid" as if nothing else has changed. When, in the real world, their employees have had children, taken over care of their elderly parents, and/or developed chronic health issues. (Not to mention struggled to cope with post-Covid inflation when wages have barely budged.)
