Pros

Wonderful school, great community, have been thrilled to work there.

Cons

As with any school, politics of the place can be complicated, but people generally operate with the students' interests in mind.

Pros

I have been a long time classroom teacher at Friends Seminary. It has been a place where I have been valued for my professionalism. I treasure my relationships with colleagues and I have grown as a teacher over the years. In recent years, the school has ramped up its commitment to diversity and inclusion. The school has a teacher's association (union) that works hard to protect uphold fair labor practices without imposing unreasonable work rules. The school has a strong tradition of equality that supports the idea that everyone has a seat at the table. The community is quite progressive on issues of sexual orientation. Teacher salaries are very good!

Cons

Like many Manhattan private schools, the school struggles with economic inequality. As the school has grown in the past decade, it has been harder to know all the teachers, all the children and all of the staff and community fractures as a result. Change happens slowly and traditions are hard to challenge.

Pros

Really just the health benefits and 403(b) contribution.

Cons

Staff are abysmally underpaid. Underqualified hirings and promotions all around. Community rife with nepotism, favoritism and manipulation. No perceptible administrative backbone or palpable sense of overall leadership. Hypocritical commitment to social justice.
