Pros
9/80 schedule, every other Friday is an off day; paycheck
Cons
My review is for the Design Department which is the department I was hired to work in. I did meet many good people at FEI during my tenure so don’t take this as a revue of the entire company. I know 5 people who have worked in the same room and for the same boss before me and had plenty of advanced warning as to what I was getting myself into. Never in my entire working career have I ever been spoken down to and here it was nearly an everyday occurrence, not only for me but for my co-workers. Walking on eggshells was not the exception it was the norm. Not even when I worked as an assembler on a shop assembly line did I experience of being spoken to in such demeaning fashion. The Design room is a windowless room which is poorly lit with fluorescent light. It caused me to experience eye strain daily and after I left the company it took over a month for my eyes to heal and return to normal. The CAD software is not maintained and nor is it controlled by an administrator which opens the door for file management issues. The review processes are informal and you will be kept out of the loop until you are called upon to make changes and often you will be held responsible for things which are out of your control simply because you are uninformed. Its baptism by fire! I have been working in manufacturing / engineering environments since 1988 and have never experienced such a poor work environment. My conclusion, if you like being spoken to like you are a complete idiot, if you want to experience unnecessary stress and want to damage your health, and want to remove years from your life the FEI Design group is for you. If you decide to work here, Good Luck!
