The work environment and culture at the Folger are toxic and unsupportive. Leadership and management fail to empower staff, often creating a climate of fear, micromanagement, and distrust. HR is ineffective and does not provide employees with meaningful (any) support. While the organization talks about inclusivity, collaboration, and respect, the reality is far different — employees are undervalued, morale is low, and many feel silenced. The lack of true leadership and care for staff has taken a toll not only on employees but also on the organization’s reputation and results. Recent layoffs and severe lack of ticket sales/empty seats show this.
