Pros

Essence does a fantastic job of hiring top tier talent

Cons

Dan Dobson-Smith is one of the most arrogant, ridiculous humans I have ever met. As someone who bills himself as a mentor and coach, he is completely oblivious to his own shortcomings and the regard that staff hold him in. Unless you can benefit him or his career, he will condescend and dismiss you. I, luckily, was not subjected to this treatment, but witnessed it on several occasions. Why he keeps getting promoted is a mystery.

Pros

Got the job after a gap year so was chuffed

Cons

Terrible place to work, using this as a stepping stone. I'm too smart for this place. They don't pay enough and my talents are wasted

Pros

Oh how you’ll love the snacks Gmail for work sure beats Outlook

Cons

What three lads, and their lackey, from England railed against has finally come true. Welcome to Messence, the agency the founders of Essence founded to not become. The circle is complete gentlemen. The magic is snuffed. Assimilation successful. Bask. Let’s wade through the bollocks together…..... If you removed the signage and replaced it with MediaCom or Maxus who would notice? WPP got its agency and the agency became WPP. Corporations win again. Cronyism is rampant. If you are not part of the club at the top you may as well pack your things. The only way to get ahead is to be part of this club of geniuses. If a sweatshop had free coffee would it still be a sweatshop? You should ask yourself that question oh ye prospective employee because you will find out the answer. Don’t make any plans. This company continues to botch their approach to diversity being hollow and fake on things like gender inequality while remaining non existent on things like mental health, physical health, age, race and numerous other protected groups. But of course avoid the advertising me too trend at all costs. The agency’s propaganda wing is there to help clean up. I eagerly await the culture cult's response to this post. No I do not want to write to your listening inbox. You should already be listening. So if you are looking for a place that peaked years ago where you can really sink your teeth into red tape, work yourself to death and find your very own personalized glass ceiling, ask your recruiter if Messence is right for you.
