Pros

Great casual atmosphere. The people are great. You get free lunch which is nice. There is no dress code. New ideas and technology are a top priority.

Cons

Now that it is TD Ameritrade things are changing a lot but it can still be hard to get time off. Many people work 60+ hours a week while others work 40 yet they are paid the same. 30% of the people do about 90% of the work.

Pros

Teaching and coaching others on a wide range of investment topics forces a lot of learning. This learning is reinforced by trading yourself on a monthly basis or more frequently. The topics covered ranged from a superficial look fundamental analysis to an in-depth look at technical analysis. Advanced certifications such as CMT chartered market technician or CFA chartered financial analyst were encouraged and you were reimbursed for the cost of obtaining such designations. Knowing where to find and how to use information found on the internet was also required and continues to be a very useful skill. One final benefit you can in contact with a lot of co-workers with whom you could form a strong network.

Cons

Shrinking industry, limited upside, low quality of upper management.
