I'm sorry to hear that you had a difficult time. Although we've done a lot with the very small funding we've brought on board up to this point, the constraints on a lean startup can be quite challenging. We indeed had made a lot of mistakes, a lot of missed opportunities, a lot of specifications that could have been much more detailed, plans which could have been more thought out, and customers in need of key features on tight timelines. I'm not sure what year you were with us, but we've since made great strides to improve our development environment, project planning, and testing systems.
As you likely know from our 1-1s, I care a hell of a lot (perhaps even to a weird degree) about fostering a genuinely positive environment, free from the disingenuousness, passive-aggression, and tribalism that is so common in many tech organizations. In my view, honesty, patience, respect, and emotional-intelligence are crucial enabling factors for a healthy work environment.
With this in mind, we might not always get things right, but we sure do hear criticism, and we assimilate it.
Thank you,
Daniel Norman, CTO and co-founder
