Pros

WRMA offices are conveniently located near metro stations on the orange and red lines. In Rockville, the offices are large. Health care benefits are relatively inexpensive for families.

Cons

I would agree with the other review that the environment at WRMA is toxic, what the other more favorable review deceptively referred to as 'competitive.' The company cultivates an environment that rewards and advances what one might consider the unintelligent, the greedy and the mean. Harassment, bullying and conflict appear to be the norm, and complaints tend to be met with no response, veiled denial, or perhaps threats. People with minimal schooling tend to be placed in positions of power in relation to intellectuals in the field. I would not recommend working here if you are a male or over 40.

Pros

Easy to get hired--company hires inexperienced people and elderly folks who should have retired or been fired many years ago. Good place to end your career.

Cons

Severely dysfunctional and toxic environment that burns out good people and enables incompetent management/senior and executive level staff. One of the biggest problems is the folks who have the power to make positive changes don't want positive changes. Questionable business ethics and executive officers. Nepotism is not rare at this family-run corporation--family members strategically placed in key positions. Incompetence is supreme here, especially at the top. Management styles swing from negligent/absent and hands-off to micromanaging, hostile, and overbearing. Managers will not back up/support staff. Extreme lack of team spirit, morale, and opportunities for advancement. Lots of one-up-manship and throwing your colleagues of all levels under the bus. A history of rewarding staff who exhibit negative attributes and bullying behavior. This type of "research" work is made up of mind-numbing, repeated, and mundane tasks. Benefits have been downgraded and now staff must pay a portion of them. Unfair and unclear promotion, raise, and bonus policies. Most of the good, loyal, and competent staff left by the end of 2014. This is not a place you want to stay very long if you must accept a job here. Lots of former employees vacated their positions without first securing other employment--it can be that bad.
