Good place to grow a Store Manager career. Beyond that, not much opportunity. - Store Manager Walgreens Employee Review

Pros

The compensation package for Store Managers is well above average compared to other retail drugstores, and in many cases, above other retailers in general. If your store looks good and runs well, the District Manager will leave you alone, in many cases. The computer systems and most policies and procedures really help the store run well. The pharmacy systems are among the most advanced in the industry, and the company treats its pharmacists well. The company has made many wise decisions in the past year to eliminate waste and improve efficiencies at the store level.

Cons

The company has slashed many positions at the corporate level, and has eliminated many district positions. Therefore, the opportunities to grow above the Store Manager level are practically non-existent. The districts are getting larger and larger, and although there are opportunities to mentor other Store Managers as a "Community Leader" of 4-6 stores, the opportunity to attain a DM position are difficult, if not impossible. The company recently began requiring Store Managers to close one night a week (until 10:30 or 11:00 PM).

Pros

pay was decent I guess

Cons

no promotions, no good management, a lot of people in positions that do absolutely nothing, very cliquey, constant checking in 1:1's, no growth in your career, favoritism, toxic environment.
