Pros
The 401k match of 8.5% of your salary WITHOUT YOU CONTRIBUTING ANYTHING is pretty impressive. I contribute, but WSECU contributes more than I do. I'm grateful for this because it is bar none the best credit union benefits package I've ever had. Health insurance is fabulous. It covers me and my partner and they have a variety of options including free (no premium for you and your spouse) 80% Premera Blue Shield or you can pay for some fancier options including 90% at Grouphealth. The sales goals aren't unrealistic like other local credit unions I've worked for. Not only can you achieve your goals, but goals are set to empower and excite the team into overachieving and handing out gift cards galore for all your hard work and team work. I'm pleased with WSECU as an employer. Pay is truly a blessing here. It's the only credit union that pays a living wage in the Seattle metropolitan area. While it still doesn't feel like enough, it's generous for doing a position that will soon be completely automated (loan processing).
Cons
WSECU is very focused on its hometown: Olympia. The management is aging and needs to be replaced with young and excited employees. Many of the senior management are original or near originals of WSECU and it is time for WSECU to move into the new millenium. It feels like a struggle if you're searching for advancement. WSECU doesn't offer any education to its employees to help them reach their career goals, so internal applicants typically are dismissed as unqualified for advanced positions.
