Pros
• The people are great. I had the opportunity to work with many talented, hardworking professionals who genuinely care about the company's success.
• The company is growing quickly, which creates opportunities to tackle a wide variety of projects and learn new things.
• Leadership is willing to explore new ideas and solutions, particularly when it comes to improving processes, safety, and operational efficiency.
• The organization provides exposure to many different aspects of the business, making it a good environment for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and contributing beyond their primary role.
• Employees who are self-motivated and willing to take initiative can influence processes, programs, and operational improvements.
Cons
• Rapid growth outpaces the development of formal processes, documentation, and organizational structure.
• Everyone there is a "manager," and the amount of micromanaging is ample.
• Everyone must report to the office, despite being in a role that doesn't require it. Prior to my tenure at VoltaGrid, they were a customer of mine, and I handled their account (and work) exceptionally well from my remote location.
• The current org structure doesn't make sense in terms of how the Publications Group is set up. There isn't a Publications group!
• Employees who specialize in process improvement, standardization, or organizational development may find it challenging to gain traction when immediate operational demands take precedence.
• As with many fast-growing companies, there can be periods where reactive decision-making overshadows proactive planning and continuous improvement efforts.
In short, it's a pretty good company to work for, but you must pack a handful of patience, because you're going to need it!
