Pros

The mission behind the school has potential and is rooted in serving students in the Bronx community. • Some teachers and staff are genuinely dedicated, hardworking, and student-centered. • Students are resilient, bright, and deserving of a stronger and more organized school environment.

Cons

Toxic operations culture where feedback is discouraged and concerns are often met with defensiveness instead of collaboration. • Top-down, fear-based leadership style within operations that functions more like command-and-control than a team environment. • Lack of systems, training, and structure, leaving staff to “figure it out” without support, clarity, or guidance. • Poor communication and transparency, especially around decisions that directly impact front-line operations and families. • Mental health and staff well-being are not prioritized, which leads to burnout, resentment, and turnover. • Retaliatory or dismissive atmosphere when staff raise concerns, making employees feel isolated or ganged up on rather than heard and supported. • High instability and risk for turnover because the current leadership approach is not sustainable for long-term success.

Pros

it is a commendable mission. there are some wonderful students and colleagues. The compensation is decent.

Cons

it is not a healthy place to work. administration is dismissive bordering on cruel. intense micromanagement, but no support. it is a culture where you are always walking on eggshells waiting for someone to tell you what you did wrong. 50% of the students (about) are terrific - and the other 50% are apathetic at best, and at worst overtly hostile.

Pros

the faculty are very supportive of one another and there are some lovely students

Cons

as others have noted micromanaging, plenty of performative tasks like data analysis and posting objectives but not much in the way of respect for professional judgement or even care. I don't think the head of school knows my. name, and it's not that big a school. The school is obsesses with cardinal virtues and reading the poem Invictus, but the students trash the classrooms, are profoundly disrespectful (not all of them, in fairness) and the lack of common courtesy does not appear to be a priority.
