They pay decently well. You have much freedom in how/when you work.
Cons
Poor project management and organisational structure. Uncertain, changing paradygms for career evolution, in the IT in particular. Very slow to make changes. Technical excellence has no relevance, incompetence and complacency are entirely acceptable.
