Pros

Good equipment. If you're willing to live with chaotic and unskilled/unqualified and capricious management, you can gain skills in a healthcare industry.

Cons

Upper management often bullying, inappropriate and vindictive. Policy is arbitrary and changes from one day to the next with no accountability or warning. Upper management seems to always be busy with makework and lacks management skills and credentials. Business employees are asked to spy and report on other employees for info to form the basis of hiring/firing decisions, setting the tone for a gossipy and backstabbing office culture.. A learning experience to navigate those waters but never want to return. Most positions and pay aside from upper management are stagnant.

Pros

The manager of my department is very good but I can not say that about most of the other managers. I have been able to learn a great deal and feel valued by by my manager as well as the pathologists affiliated with the lab. I work with a team of very knowledgeable good people.

Cons

The UniPath laboratory operations were bought by a group of business men ~5yrs ago. They have cut benefits, including stopped matching the 401K, and pay has stagnated. Their plan was to sell the lab off to a larger operation and make a tidy profit, but the large labs (i.e. Quest and Lab Corp) has stated that they are no longer interested in doing any acquisitions. So, unfortunately we are being run by people who seem to have no idea how to run a large laboratory. They are pulling large salaries from the company but have done little to increase our sales or efficiency, however they need to show an increase in profits to their investors and so they continue to cut pay and benefits while telling us how lucky we are to work here. I am looking for something else but will miss my team of highly skilled and hard working techs.
