Pros

Company has been through some hard times and had to learn some hard lessons the hard way. Overall never worked at a place where everyone is brilliant and a pleasure to both work with and even socialize with. The amount of amazing things that are accomplished with the team and its resources is asstounding. Everyone is willing to work with and talk through things with one another and comradery feels to be the only word to describe the general environment. The biggest issues when I started felt to be around how to get the company to profitability and grow the business’ pipeline of opportunities. Today the work that has been done over the last year has lead to the best year to date and a need to expand the company to meet demands. Engineering is always on the cutting edge of technology and its adoption, which can be scary for some, but over all leads to a feeling of real innovation within the marketplace while striving to achieve the company’s vision of replacing the key chain with the phone. Culturally the company and its employees are great. They work well with each other and manage to have fun as well with different social events, outings, etc. and there is a strong overall sense that we are all on the same team and trying to do what is best to continue to grow and build this company to be the kind of place we would all love to work at for a long time.

Cons

In the past there has been issues some within the company, some with the people hired and the realities of a small company, and some with just the region in which the company has been established. Upon starting contracts, revenue, and budgets all seemed like secondary conversations to the technology, vision, and building a product. This made sense to the realities of the company being more of a startup transitioning into an independent self funding business but the rate at which this transformation took place was a long one that has had impacts some of the people no longer here. A long period of stagnant growth made some feel as though they had no end in sight to compensation issues, career growth, and promotions. This is starting to change today as some major turning points have reached but the history has weight on some and forced others into either leaving or being shown the door. With a smaller company each person wears many hats and this can have an impact on feelings of job satisfaction for some or make working here a harder fit then for those more willing to roll with the current realities and move things along. It has felt that some accepted jobs here not really understanding the realities of what it means to work at a small technology company and others were just ill prepared for a company that needs people able to find areas of improvement and fix them on their own professionally and diplomatically. All of this along with being in the South East and being a tech company has caused the company to move and grow slowly and that has had an impact on some of the personnel who have remained here for a long time.

Pros

The concept and the technology are interesting and cutting edge. Incredible talent density and some of the nicest people I have ever worked with.

Cons

Since January the QA manager has left, two of the most senior web engineers have left, the project manager left, the last remaining co-founder has left and is contacting everyone trying to sell his shares, the COO resigned yesterday for "family reasons" and the company delayed everyones paycheck last week due to "best practices" which makes absolutely no sense. Several people did not know about the "best practice" payroll change announcement until their paycheck didn't show up on time because it was never communicated in writing ahead of time. We did get paid today thank God. To date nobody has been hired to replace any of the people that have left which has caused even more concerns about the company finances. I would sum it up as the wild west where the managers are in over their head and don't know how to run a business. There is no structure or consistency in what is expected day to day. It's a shame because there is so much opportunity and the people are so nice and get along so well. The atmosphere in the office is pretty defeated, feels like a sinking ship.
