Pros
I think the best reason is for the benefits. I have already used my GI Bill to get my Bachelor's and am moving on to a Master's. Also, once you are out the VA does a decent job of helping with jobs, medical (if you got hurt while in like me) and is good with claims now.
Cons
Never again volunteer yourself is just not right. Management is inept at times. Long times away from family, but you make some lifelong friends.
