Pros

-Global travel, experiences in multiple countries in a short time. -Spent a lot time deployed... almost two of four years. -Opportunity for rapid advancement, as long as you are willing to work. -Unrivaled education opportunities, both in the Navy and after you get out. -Good pay... I started out making around $20k and in two years was bringing over $65k.

Cons

-First year can be tough. Boot camp isn't fun and you are treated like a scrub in initital training. -Spent a lot of time deployed... almost two of four years. -Can get rafted into a bad job by unscrupulous recruiters. DO YOUR HOMEWORK before getting in!! For God's sake, unless you are just desperate to get in, do not take "undesignated seaman" as your title when you get in the Navy.

Pros

It is what you make out of it. You'll have good days and bad days. It's all dependent on your leadership. That can make or break the command. Medical is free, but can take a while to get seen. You'll meet a lot of new people and could travel around the world depending on your duty station. Education benefits and training.

Cons

Medical can take a while to get seen, unless it's an emergency. If you're single, the pay isn't that great, but you don't have to much to worry about for bills if you live on base. If you're on sea duty billet, your work life balance will be terrible.
