Stepping stone employer, rather than a lifetime career, due to the antagonistic work environment and poor benefits. - Programmer US Biotek Employee Review

Pros

Lots of opportunities to work on technologies and processes that are hard to find elsewhere. Work hard, learn the technology, and the experience gained is quite valuable. Technical employees have discretion as to how they accomplish their tasks. Since management oversight is minimal, it's rare to feel micromanaged. Also, despite the large volume of work, overtime is rare and a 40-hour workweek is the norm.

Cons

US BioTek has a number of employees who are either not productive or are difficult to work with. When these favored employees cause trouble, management will either look the other way or blame the other employees for not being good enough or having "the right attitude". Needless to say, this creates a very antagonistic environment between the employees who feel entitled to work (or not) any way they wish and employees who are actually trying to do their best work for the company and customers. Management decisions often hinder the staff's efforts. Mainly because of the aforementioned minimal oversight, middle management often doesn't have enough knowledge to make important decisions, but does so anyway. Also, the benefits and compensation aren't competitive for more skilled employees.

Pros

This job gave me clear expectations and an outline of my job responsibilities. Everyone on the team is hardworking, and also supportive of one another. I really enjoyed the team, as well as my boss being very kind and supportive. They hold you to a high standard in the best way possible, and overall help you/support you in achieving that. It feels really good to work in an environment and for a company that has such a positive impact on people's lives via functional testing. Working here, I know I actually make a difference, and that is something that is very important to me when looking at my employment. US BioTek has monthly company luncheons, where one team (ex. marketing, finance, sample processing, customer service, etc.) chooses catering from somewhere and we all eat together. We also got Starbucks gift cards and handwritten letters from top management on birthdays, so it it very apparent that the company cares about the employees and their well being.

Cons

None really, this job was exactly what I expected from the job description.

Pros

US Biotek is a fast-paced company, and recent growth has created many opportunities to build new skills and take on a variety of responsibilities. I often have the chance to wear multiple hats, learn across functions, and develop skills beyond a narrowly defined role. Good place for the ones that enjoy learning, adapting, and working in a dynamic setting, This can be a great place to grow professionally. Another positive is the relatively low level of office politics, which helps create a more straightforward and focused work environment.

Cons

One area for improvement is the benefits package, which is fair but not especially competitive. In addition, because there are no on-site HR department, employee engagement and internal support can sometimes feel limited. As the company continues to grow, strengthening these areas could make the overall employee experience even better.
