Pros
Many times you encounter caring project teams. The work experience is great for career progression because the company name opens doors for you. Continuous opportunities for community give-back and mentorship of others, Great networking opportunities.
Cons
It is difficult to achieve work life balance depending on the project you’re on. Often, engineers and supers are given more work than they can realistically manage effectively. Work is not evenly distributed. Those who do better work are given a heavier workload. This results in things falling through the cracks. Management offers help but has no time to follow through. The change order process needs to be streamlined so that trade partners can be paid in a timely fashion. Often one person does the work of several people. Promotion is based on seniority rather than successful management of workload. The only way to get work life balance here is to create it for yourself. No OT pay at many client projects when you’re salaried / exempt.
