I had a frustrating experience due to poor management and a toxic reporting dynamic. I ended up working under someone I hadn't even interviewed with—my manager turned out to be controlling, micromanaging, and generally difficult to deal with. Expectations shifted constantly, and I was repeatedly asked to do tasks far outside my role, including things that had nothing to do with my job description.
At one point, she hired someone at $50/hour to assemble furniture, then got upset when I said I wouldn’t do the same during my work hours—something that was not in my contract. It felt like she was trying to set me up to fail rather than support my success. Overall, the lack of respect for boundaries and job roles made this a toxic environment I wouldn’t recommend.
