The company is failing, laid off a 1/3rd of the employees, and isn't growing. The same two people have been leading Product and Marketing for over 10 years, innovation is lacking, messaging is unclear, any attempt to suggest changes gets talked around and disregarded. The current CRO was let go when the company was VC backed, then rehired by his friend when the company was sold into PE and received a new Board of Directors. Sure enough, the same patterns repeated as the past, a year later the company is a sinking ship and they lay off a bunch of people.
Speaking specifically about the marketing department, there is a lack of support and guidance when needed, contributing to a less than optimal work environment. I'd get one on one's being told I was doing great, and then get let go for poor performance. There was no coaching, no guidance on what to improve on, no mentorship, no training, no inclination I wasn't performing, and overall no marketing strategy or direction. They let the ENTIRE marketing department go with the layoffs, so is the problem with the team? Or the leadership? I'll let you decide that one.
