Pros
Good experience to start a career in sales.
Cons
The company is going through a lot of restructuring in 2020 after Bucherer has taken over the company. That means they have fired a lot of older sales people and are hiring new, younger, fresher faces. What they didn’t tell the new hires when onboarding, was that the plan was to cut commissions down half a percent in the new year. On Rolex you went down from 2 percent to 1.5 percent on a sale, and while the pricing went up on many Rolex as of the first, the amount of increase is not across the same for all Rolex product. If you are selling other brands you also took a hit. All except for Bucherer, who bought the company...but it’s a really hard sell. The watches also constantly come back for repairs. Personal bonuses were also restructured and became store bonuses. Unfortunately, this all means you make close to the same or less money than before. The stores that have been remodeled have also left zero to no space for employees in the back. Be prepared to eat lunch out everyday, because there is no refrigerator or room to eat lunch in the back. I have seen machines for cleaning watches moved into the bathroom because there wasn’t room for them, and that meant that burning water may be splashing on you while you’re trying to wash your hands. Watches were also cleaned in the employee bathroom sink and the sink was absolutely disgusting. What architect was in charge of this remodel!? It was like they completely forgot they had employees. You will be on your feet all day, and constantly competing with other sales people on the floor due to bad management (as well as a refusal to outline and enforce an equal sales procedures for all). There is a LOT of favoritism that is hard to overcome if you’re new. Some highly desired timepieces (Rolex) are kept in the back and due to favorability, you may not be able to sell them. They often went to salespeople who had been there for years, and others such as myself who were new, would be overlooked. This grew a LOT of resentment between salespeople. Customers were often stolen from me by other co- workers, with no interference from management. Many people are bitter, and feel you must suffer as they had to in sales, rather than creating a healthy environment that you would want to walk into everyday. After the commission structure change, competitiveness got even worse to the point where I didn’t want to go into work anymore. If you had better management, your store could be different... be sure to meet your managers prior to being hired and be sure that you get along. They can make or break your experience, and can sabotage you if they like. As a female, I experienced sexual harassment from my male customers constantly. I was almost expected to put up with it by management in order to make a sale. There is little in place to protect women from this. To be honest, I love timepieces and consider myself a nerd who loves the industry, but the environment ultimately wasn’t worth it. Was crushing, because I could have seen myself there for awhile.
