Pros

Great location downtown toronto. OK perks and a reputable Canadian company to back it. I enjoy being in IT/Big data and there are things to learn

Cons

Middle management and direction is very poor. There were promises of a culture change with new hires but it's just more of the same. It is very old boys club, and promotions, reviews and hiring based on favors for friends, former colleagues and having yes-men, not real industry knowledge. Management doesn't value hard work so if you want satisfaction in your job, and to be rewarded for doing it well, look elsewhere. You don't have to really know anything to excel and rise in leadership here, just who to kiss up too, making earning a high position here useless.

Cons

Sometimes there's a lot of work expected but that comes with a prestigious company.

Pros

Employees were proud and had a lot of pride regarding the history of Toronto Star and what it represented. Leadership cared about the product.

Cons

Hourly instead of salary. Strict union rules prevented growth.
