Pros

- There are lots of good roles for career growth; the company is innovating in a lot of different places, monetizing different things, and always trying out new ideas. - Lots of chances to work on new technology. There is a lot sharing of ideas and work across teams - There seem to be a good amount of internal promotions - Management in general seems to be pretty receptive to feedback and open to ideas. - There is currently a lot of growth: There are plenty of chances to try out different things, create new processes, and generally stand out and get recognized. - The engineering department takes themselves super seriously: They hire great people, invest a lot into their work, tools, product, and overall quality.

Cons

Overall, the good outweighs the bad. - The environment in the D.C. office is pretty straight-faced/serious. Not really a bad thing, but if you're coming from a larger tech company, you won't get the tech environment here. The culture is "meh". - Even within the teams, there is not always a strong feeling of "we're all in this together". - There is currently a lot of growth: There's a lot to do, and it seems like sometimes the systems and processes we're using to try to address everything don't capture it all. - The engineering side takes themselves super seriously: You'll probably end up working a lot.

As the media industry continues to evolve, it's important we hire good people who embody our four catalysts- shape ideas, redefine speed, take ownership and lead. We're glad you experience that on the Engineering team. Thanks for your advice!

Pros

Supporting journalism is the one good thing.

Cons

The culture needs improvement, with a strict in-office policy that may not work well for everyone. There also seems to be ongoing challenges with employee retention, which can impact team morale, consistency, and long-term stability. The tech guild and unions made me feel really uncomfortable with coworkers protesting outside the office.
