Pros
They take a good amount of time training and testing you, so if you’re new to the fitness industry like I was, this is a great position to get familiar with industry terms and to get comfortable with training clients with an easy to follow routine. The people that work here are amazing and I’ve made some incredible friends. A lot of people do get their start here then move on to taking personal clients but they make it very clear that you must keep the two separate. The culture is very relaxed and there’s downtime to even study for your national certification if that’s what you’re going for. Management is actually really wonderful and they’re always checking on you to see if you need anything. They have monthly meetings that make it easy to communicate new thoughts and ideas.
Cons
The pay structure is the most confusing I’ve seen in all my years of commissioned employment. If you get into a location that is busy and you keep a full schedule, there’s flexibility to make more than minimum wage but not much. Additionally, I’ve heard from coworkers that payroll will make mistakes on commission, then take the money back through future paychecks. Although this personally never happened to me, I was always afraid it would. The certification you get through this gym is not nationally recognized however I was able to find other commercial gym work who would accept it.
