Pros

I joined as a graduate, and it gave me a huge amount of structured learning and growth opportunities in the first several years of my career. I was very lucky to have a supportive mentor and a strong team. Tencent has a very mature training and development system. For example, as a graduate hire, we had a two-week full-time onboarding training programme, and throughout the years there were many internal courses on product management, leadership and professional skills. The promotion and performance system is also very structured and transparent. The company culture and benefits are also very strong. Tencent encourages employees to participate in volunteering and social impact programmes, and there is a strong emphasis on “technology for good”. On a practical level, the employee benefits are very good as well, such as free meals, shuttle buses, and a lot of sports and wellness facilities like gym, yoga, dance and fitness classes, which really help people maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Cons

But in the later stage, as the company and the business grew even larger and more enterprise-focused, the organisation naturally became less flat and more process-driven. Decision-making took longer, and more energy went into coordination, reporting and approvals.
