Pros

Some of the nicest people I’ve ever worked with. The shipping team will often have food to share, especially if your lunch doesn’t include fresh fruit or vegetables. Work culture over all has a healthy appreciation of food. Location is decent with a range of food/pricing. On the 22 Muni route.

Cons

Parking is awful. Break room is too often closed for the CEO’s meditation sessions or meetings with as little as one other person. This keeps employees away from the one room with a microwave and refrigerator, often during lunch hours. Even with complaints from employees, meetings were still scheduled. No benefits for employees at all; no stock options, no 401k, employee reviews are undocumented and work/life balance not respected. During the holidays employees were strongly encouraged to “volunteer” to work uncompensated weekends helping orders get shipped out because leadership is trying to avoid paying for help. I signed up for an entire weekend because I am all about teamwork and working towards a common goal, but an anonymous email was sent to the CEO stating the legalities of the situation and the response from leadership was not admirable. The initial response to the email stated Tatcha is a retail company and if you aren’t in for putting some extra time during the holidays – get out. The company slightly changed their tune as time went on, but by that time fear had already set in. Seeing this side of leadership, I decided to back out of the unpaid weekend and help the shipping department during the week and do my own work in the evening and over the weekend. I wish I could say this was the only situation where fear was given as an incentive to work harder, longer hours but unfortunately this is not the case. In a company wide meeting the CEO stated to be more like Jiro (from Jiro Dreams of Sushi), citing he never complained, worked day and night and she could have 10 résumés for each of our positions by the end of the day. Time off approved by management can upset the exec level, as well as working from home while sick and doctor appointments. All of these have been cited as an exec’s reason for terminating employment – even if there were no warnings given, written policies broken or the employee review was positive.

Pros

free lunches. great employee discount.

Cons

where can I begin.. this place is scary. marketing team runs almost everything but is the most incompetent group of marketers in the industry. there is no strategy, just chasing trends at least 2 years too late. all good ideas are shut down and it ultimately comes down to doing whatever the founder wants. she claims she's not involved anymore but secretly uses people internally to get things to go her way and causes so much spin and toxicity.
