Pros

Incredible depth of knowledge in the sales org. Really, really solid products. Management is friendly, willing to coach, and helps you be more efficient. Benefits are good, even for an insurance company: day 1 healthcare at zero cost, no-hassle and no-questions assistance from HR if you don't understand a benefit class, and best in class retirement savings matching. On top of that, they're just good, hard-working people. Coworkers are largely very nice to work with, overall. Everyone is pretty set on exceeding goals, too. The company provides unlimited opportunities for education and advancement, both through higher education payments and through internal education. Swiftnet is rich with information for employees, as well, and the ERGs are fantastic resources and peer groups. Recognition, praise and pay are all there - I felt welcomed and valued from the moment I onboarded.

Cons

There's a lot of "telephone" - and I don't mean our jobs. I mean, instead of communicating effectively and directly, people tend to hear, then reinterpret creatively, directives from management, or come up with new ones from whole cloth. It creates an environment where people struggle to find the actual benchmarks. I tend to ask management directly for guidance instead of collaborating with coworkers from other related, but separate, teams.

From Cris Hunter, VP Internal Sales: Thank you for your 5-star review, I am thrilled that you’re pleased with the employee experience and benefits we have to offer. I hope we continue to exceed your expectations and that you continue to enjoy your time with Symetra. We understand efficient and direct communication is more important than ever as our team continues to grow and as we continue to add additional remote work opportunities. This is an area we are constantly evaluating and looking to combat by creating opportunities to connect in person, hosting regular hybrid team meetings, and providing cross-team collaboration projects. We also encourage an open-door culture amongst the leadership team so employees feel empowered to seek clarification when needed.

Pros

Great opportunities here to become a true student of the business. Flexibility in work location, because it's really and truly a fully remote first workplace. Opportunity to develop and nurture an effective sales system, bring value and partner for a lifetime with financial professionals to help grow businesses, and protect clients' and families' futures. Guidance and employee engagement in future-proofing the business, leadership opportunities, and opportunities for community impact that you can measure both with hard data and with emotional impact on the team. I'm genuinely glad to get up and go to work every morning. I'm grateful for the opportunity, and the confidence given to us to be driven and self-sufficient professionals.

Cons

Training is getting exponentially better, and structure is fomenting, but still isn't where it should be, by far. Sales teams bolster each other, but there's a perception of "performance punishment" that affects morale. The company wants to be a top ten carrier, but feels like it's lacking direction in other divisions, and our operational growing pains are evident to advisors.

From Erin Woltz, VP Talent Management and Change Leadership: Thank you for this thoughtful feedback and for the genuine enthusiasm you bring to your work here! It's meaningful to hear that you find purpose in partnering with financial professionals and contributing to something larger. Appreciate you highlighting your concerns; these are the kinds of observations that help us identify where our growth is creating friction. We encourage you to continue sharing that perspective with your manager and through our internal feedback channels. Voices like yours are part of how we get to where we want to be.
