      Great place to learn, Not so good place to sustain - Operational Risk Manager Swiss Re Employee Review

      Pros

      Learning environment, knowledge driven organisation. Opportunities to work abroad to gain global perspective.

      Cons

      Extremely slow career progress, especially if you are focussing only on your work. Highly perception driven culture, lack of independent performance assessment mechanism, heavily dependent on stakeholder feedback. Joined this organisation in 2005 and worked for 13 years - it wasn't so politically contaminated at the early days in Bengaluru. Gradually it became a nightmare for people who are primarily introvert and only concerned about the work.

      Over-engineering in making decisions. Lots of hoops to jump through to get things done.

      Pros

      1. 12% 401k match 2. Amazing co workers in the trenches but this is rapidly changing as people look for the exits.

      Cons

      1. Management - the new management team has a maximum personal bonus / profit only mindset. Cost cutting reigns. 2. Constant layoffs. No job is safe. 3. Company has offshored many jobs to India and is in a race to move key underwritering, engineering, claims functions to India as well. Overall, it feels more like a private equity gut job than a publicly traded company.
