Operational front line staff are competent, skilled and professional. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for other departments.
Cons
A poor culture caused by substandard management and leaders with no people management skills. This company show a clear and obvious fear of unions, putting shore-based staff at a disadvantage. There were also clear and obvious signs of favouritism in an unwelcoming environment. Due to their lack of experience in other areas of the industry, leaders/line management fail due to their own perceived importance and lack of understanding as to where towage really fits into the wider industry supply chain. They also demonstrate clear arrogance towards customers and continue to abuse their monopoly in various ports around the country. I would strongly advise people to avoid Svitzer and explore other areas of the shipping/ports industry.
